Pangong By Road

If you have your own jeep or car then you must start early in the morning. The stretch to Karu along the Leh Manali highway is about forty five kilometers long and smooth. Once you reach Karu you exit the highway to reach Shakti Village on the way to an extremely high mountainous pass known as Chang La. The road condition on the Chang La pass is not upto the mark; hence the driver should be experienced. The way to Pangong lake is memorable. Chang la pass is the third highest motorable pass in India, first being Khardung la and second being Tang La. After crossing Chang La one reaches Tanksey. This place is ideal for taking a meal break on the way to the lake. From Tanskey one has to reach Spangmik. The lake will be visible from here. The size of the lake and the beautiful view is breathtaking. The dappled color effect and the low dangling clouds gives the perfect opportunity to those interested in photography. Spangmik is situated on the edge of Pangong lake, one can spend the night here in a hotel or cottage. The China border is very close to the lake and the civilians are not allowed to go any further.
