Kodaikanal is the most beautiful and popular hill station in Tamil Nadu. It is located in the famous Palani Hills in Western Ghats and is known as the Princess of hill stations. Kodaikanal is situated about 7,200 feet from the sea level. 

Kodaikanal is the most sought after honeymoon destination in South India because of its scenic beauty and it has the attribute to leave any nature lover mesmerized by its charms. 

The word Kodaikanal means gift of the forest in local language. The dense forest with many varieties of trees, the huge rocks in the wilderness and the enchanting waterfalls makes it a real gift for the tourists visiting this place. Kodaikanal is famous for eucalyptus oil, homemade chocolates, plums and pears. Kodaikanal is famous for the kurinji - flowers, which blossoms only once in twelve years. A tourist can indulge in various activities - one can go for cycling, horse riding, boating, trekking and many more adventurous activities. Kodaikanal is influenced with Christian culture and the sculptures in the churches of Kodaikanal are worth a visit.

Winters are very cool with maximum temperature is about 17°C and minimum touches about 8°C. During January, ice formations are seen in night and temperature can drop down to freezing level. Kodaikanal has average rainfall during monsoons (June to September). 

Summer festivals with many cultural programs, flower shows and fruit shows, boat races, and adventure sports are very attractive and many tourists visit here during this festival season. 

Best time to visit here is all through the year, especially during summers and winters. Avoid monsoon.

Nearest airport is Madurai with regular flights from Chennai to Madurai. Madurai is 120 km from Kodaikanal. Coimbatore is another airport situated 180 km from Kodaikanal. This flight connectivity form major cities in india to CBE Airport.

Kodai Road railway station a major stop for most trains is 80 km from Kodaikanal. Kodaikanal is located 120 km from Madurai railway station, 200 km from Coimbatore railway station

Road

Kodaikanal is well connected by road from nearby cities like Madurai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Kodai road, Dindugal and Palani.

There are frequent buses from Bangalore, Madurai, Kodai Road, Palani. Or you can hire a taxi that ply between Kodaikanal and Madurai. Bus service from Bangalore to Kodaikanal, Chennai to Kodaikanal is available from state transport corporations and private bus operators.
